Ben Speaks at Missouri State

How I Got To Missouri State (2023 Version)

In this video, Ben shares a quick story and song "Clear", and it's tie-in to his MSU journey.

Sometimes, It's a Calculated Leap of Faith

My first college felt like spending two years standing on a moving sidewalk, slowly going nowhere.

Lonely, hurting, burned out, and broken,

when I moved out to Missouri, I was very quickly, and very assuredly, losing my faith in humanity.

My goal was to get as far away from my home-state, town, and everything I’d known as I possibly could.

I left with no plans of ever returning or moving back.

I wasn’t running away. I needed a new plan, a new place. I knew that if I stayed put that I’d be stuck in the same back-and-forth rut that so many countless young people get stuck in.

I’d be left wondering:

What would have happened?
What could have been different?
I wonder what THAT might have been like?

There was this nagging voice in my head, saying, “You need to go to Missouri. There’s something you’re going to experience there that you’re not going to get anywhere else.”

Never in my life had I been more convicted about something.

Turns out the voice was right. The people and friends I met wound up rebuilding my spirit in a way that I can only describe as a resurrection.

For the first time in years,

I had finally found what I’d been searching for for so long…

Home.

I kept trying to live other people’s lives; other people’s stories,
when the one I needed to live was my own.

It is my true hope that each person finds that here.
